Wrought Iron Fences

Wrought iron fences are sought after by those who are looking for quality, elegance, durability and beauty. These fences, in particular, seem to add a significant increase to the property value of a home and should be built to compliment the design of the home.

In addition to the value and beauty added to a home, these fences add a measure of security, even though they do not offer the privacy that other fences offer. Wrought iron fences are almost impossible to tear down and are very difficult to climb, particular when the design features sharp steaks at the top of the fence.

While there are certain companies that will supply the materials for the do it yourselfer to install, it is best to have this project completed by a professional. There is no margin of error permitted with this design and the installation of a fence of wrought iron must be executed flawlessly. In addition, the cost of the fence itself, not taking installation into consideration, is noteworthy. If you’re willing to pay for the materials, you need to be prepared to pay for a quality installation job.

A good contractor in your area, who specializes in the installation of wrought iron fences, should be located for installation. Not only does the installation of the fence require flawless execution, but there are often focal points constructed with masonry or bricks which require the expertise of a professional.

Once the decision is made to install this type of fence, much of the homeowners effort in this process will focus on the research and investigative work PRIOR to having the fence installed. You will not only need to decide on the style of fence you want installed, but which one of the many fence building contractors will complete the process for you.

When deciding on a local contractor, tour the homes in your area, observing those that have exquisite installation of their wrought iron fences. Obtain the names of the contractors that these individuals used.

For each of the names of contractors that you obtain, you will want to identify:

1. Their level of experience with wrought iron, and installation in particular,
2. The styles of fences that they’ve installed, along with the benefits of each style,
3. Their process for determining the most appropriate style for your particular home design,
4. The names of no less than 5 customers over the last 5-10 years, who’ve worked with this company to have a fence of wrought iron installed, and
5. Their good standing with the Better Business Bureau (opens new window).

It is wise to painstakingly go through the process of contacting and visiting previous customers to determine their level of satisfaction with the installation process, and with the fence itself. The acquisition of wrought iron fences is a major home improvement decision, and much should be done in the way of research before selecting a style and a contractor.

Most of the effort involved in this project should be done in the preparation phase to ensure that you are happy with this product for many years to come.
