Garden Equipment Rental
Garden equipment rental is a very nice option for those lawn-garden tools that you use infrequently. I’m a huge advocate for renting any item that you don’t use more than once (maybe even twice) a year. When purchasing lawn-garden tools, you have to spend a lot amount of money to get a high quality tool. Not only is this initial expense involved, but there’s regular maintenance of the item (blade sharpening, oil changing, repairs, etc.) and storage issues. Garden equipment rental from your local lawn and garden shop or hardware store is available for a reasonable fee, the tools are generally of commercial quality and very durable, and you don’t need to worry about the maintenance! Definitely a plus!
The following are some lawn-garden tools that may be more economical to rent as opposed to own. Lawn Aerator (opens new window)
– To aerate or not to aerate...that is the question! Believe it or not, lawn aeration is not simply for the neat lawn fanatics, it’s actually good for your standard homeowner as well...that means you! It is my personal opinion that a lawn does not need aerating any more than once every year or so. If you’ve aerated your lawn once in the last 5 years, you’re definitely ahead of the game. I really don’t see any need to own one of these items. You’ll want to have a high quality tool that provides core aeration (not just spike aeration). Purchasing such an item will be quite expensive, and there’s really no need with the infrequency with which you will use it. Rent a lawn aerator once a year after a good rain and your lawn will thank you for it! See Aerating Your Lawn for more information on this subject. Power Washer (opens new window)
– This is one of the items that I would recommend that you purchase however some may not use it with enough frequency to justify the expense, and renting one once a year may be a better alternative. The power washer cleans leaps and bounds above a hose sprayer. We have a 50 year old patio made out of pavers that tend to gather lots of dirt and grime in the crevices and on top. The power washer cuts through the dirt, and cleans out the crevices quite nicely. It also took care of some mold that we had growing on our lannon stone. It’s definitely a good idea to use a power washer that has a lot of “power” to it. Buying one can get expensive but renting one ensures that you will be using a rugged, high powered tool. Tiller (opens new window)
- This is another item that I, personally, would like to own. In all likelihood, I will make a tiller purchase at some point in the future, however until that day comes, renting a tiller once a year to prepare the soil in my garden or other areas throughout the yard is a must! The same advice holds true as with the other landscaping tools discussed above, renting a tiller allows you to rent a high-quality, durable tool without the responsibility of the maintenance of the item.
I rented this tiller at a hardware store just around the corner for $12 an hour, with a 2 hour minimum. It worked beautifully!! As you can see, it pays to have a truck if you plan to rent a lot of equipment. You may already know how to plant flowers but this page goes into detail as to how to prepare the soil for optimal plant growth and development after planting.Their are many other lawn-garden tools available through garden equipment rental facilities. If you have not had the opportunity to look into this, I highly recommend it. I have rented items such as carpet scrubbers and paint sprayers through garden equipment rental facilities, and I am aware that there are lots of other interesting gadgets available for your use. As with all lawn-garden tools and equipment, make sure you educate yourself (or obtain this information from the garden equipment rental facility) on the safe use of each item you intend to use. ALWAYS put safety as your #1 goal! Remember that you can not put a high enough price on your personal well-being...and a mistake that jeopardizes yours or another's safety can never be undone. Enjoy your garden equipment rental journey!
