Fake Boulders

Fake boulders are an awesome way to add interest to your backyard landscaping designs!

They’re also an incredible way to cover up “eye sores” that you don’t know what else to do with!

I took down an old flag pole last year...no, I’m not anti-patriotic...the flagpole was rusted, seriously tilted to one side, and the top was anchored in one of my full grown trees. So I decided to take it down.

I was actually quite proud of myself that I was able to figure out how to disassemble it and send it
C-R-A-S-H-I-N-G! to the ground!

Unfortunately, it left a 2-foot “stump” behind that I didn’t know what to do with...in come Fake Boulders!!!

You may have seen a nice landscape rock or two around town that you’re fond of, and would really like to add to your yard. The problem with this is that those rocks are crazy heavy and quite a production to have delivered to your home.

A nice fake boulder however, is easy to lift, easy to move, and therefore easy to deal with!

There are many different options that you have when purchasing your faux boulders – both in price and in look and feel. Here are some of the more interesting pieces I’ve found:

This boulder from Accents in the Garden (opens new window) is made to stand up to the weather elements, and is tough enough to last for many, many years. These and other boulders weigh in at about 40-60lbs, which makes them light enough to move, but heavy enough that they’ll stay where you put them!

The variety of fake boulders available for purchase these days is truly astonishing! You can purchase individual rocks, rocks that are decorated, rocks that come as sets, rocks thata contain your address, and everything in between. In fact, the fake rocks look so real, no one will know that their fake, and you'll have the option to move it around your yard as you please. (Definitely not an option with a 2 ton boulder!)

Use your imagination when deciding on which faux boulders will work best in your backyard. There are literally never ending possibilities when it comes to this landscape feature. Anything that adds dimension and interest to your landscape is a good feature. Landscape rocks will enhance the look of landscaping plants that you already have in your yard, or those you plan to add.

Anything unique, that represents "you" is a good thing to add to your yard (in my opinion!) After all, this is our home, the place we spend most of our time, and we should surround ourselves with what we like, and that which makes us happy.

Enjoy your rock landscaping journey!
